What cardiac records should I send for a surgical review?
Send everything you currently have. Depending on your condition, this may include echocardiograms, coronary angiograms, CT or MRI imaging, ECGs, bloodwork, cardiology reports, operative reports and previous treatment recommendations. Our team can identify anything additional a surgeon requires to properly assess your case.
Can Immediate Surgery help with complex or previously operated cardiac cases?
Yes. Some cardiac cases require a much narrower level of expertise, including previous heart surgery, complex valve disease, multi-vessel coronary disease or conditions involving the aortic root, ascending aorta or arch. We can search our network for specialists and centers experienced in the complexity of your particular case.
What happens if the specialist decides surgery is not the best option for me?
A surgical review does not automatically mean surgery will be recommended. Depending on your condition, a specialist may recommend additional testing, continued medical management, a catheter-based intervention or another approach. The priority is identifying the treatment pathway that is medically appropriate for your case.
How is follow-up handled if I travel outside Canada for heart surgery?
Your surgical team establishes the immediate post-operative and discharge plan based on your procedure and recovery. Immediate Surgery will coordinate all aspects of records and follow-up requirements so the appropriate information is available to the physicians involved in your continuing care when you return home.
