Private Heart Transplant Surgery for Canadians
Advanced heart failure leaves little room for a slow workup. We connect Canadians with experienced transplant teams for timely evaluation, a clear read on candidacy and a coordinated plan for what comes next.
- EExplore Transplant Programs at Home or Abroad.
- ESpecialist Consultation Within Days.
- E One Case Manager From Workup to Recovery.
Faster access to heart transplant evaluation and care.
- ETransplant programs set their own candidacy criteria. We help you find teams whose experience fits your diagnosis, your heart failure history and your other health factors.
- EA heart specialist program can't consider you until your workup is complete: right heart catheterization, exercise testing, antibody screening, organ function tests and more. We help get that evaluation booked and moving.
- EDelays often happen between steps, not during them. Your case manager tracks each test, result and review so nothing sits waiting for a phone call.

Matched by Procedure & Complexity
Your Province Shouldn’t Be Limit Your Transplant
Where you live shouldn’t decide how many transplant programs look at your heart. We give Canadians access to heart transplant teams across Canada, the USA and Europe. We often start with programs in other provinces, which extend your options without the distance of international care. Your case is matched by diagnosis, prior surgery, device history and other health factors, and we manage records, appointments and travel for each review. The program makes the listing decision. We make sure it has your complete picture, as early as possible.
Understanding Your Surgical Options
Advanced Heart Failure Reviewed by Specialists
Many patients who reach this point have complicated histories: previous heart surgery, an implanted device, congenital heart disease, amyloidosis or antibody levels that make matching harder. These are the cases that benefit most from experienced transplant teams. We match your file to specialists with deep experience in your specific diagnosis, so the review reflects the full complexity of your heart, not a simplified version of it.
We can help you explore care for:
- N Transplant candidacy evaluation
- NIschemic cardiomyopathy
- NHypertrophic cardiomyopathy
- NCardiac amyloidosis
- NAdult congenital heart disease
- NMyocarditis-related heart failure
- NRecurrent ventricular arrhythmias
- N Second opinion after a decline
- NFailing previous heart transplant
Every step of your evaluation coordinated.
Test scheduling, records transfer, program reviews, accommodation near the center and the handoff back to your cardiologist at home. Your case manager keeps it in one place, so your energy goes to your health.

SURGICAL EXPERTISE MEETS TECHNOLOGY
Mechanical support, donor heart preservation and rejection monitoring.
Transplant outcomes depend on more than the operation itself. Many programs in our network use mechanical circulatory support to stabilize patients before transplant, preservation systems that protect donor hearts in transit and modern testing to watch for rejection afterward. Access to these tools varies by center, which is one reason program matching matters.
- NBlood-based rejection monitoring used alongside biopsy at leading programs.
- NDetailed hemodynamic testing to confirm candidacy with precision.
- NLeft ventricular assist devices (LVADs) as a bridge to transplant or long-term therapy.

What Canadians ask before aortic repair.
Can I pay to receive a donor heart sooner?
No. Donor hearts are allocated by established rules based on medical urgency, blood type, body size and other clinical factors, and a patient's finances or nationality can't change that. What private coordination can change is how quickly your evaluation is completed, how many programs review your case and how well prepared you are if a program lists you.
Can a Canadian be listed for a heart transplant in the United States?
It depends. U.S. transplant programs can accept patients who live outside the country, but each case is reviewed individually through physician-to-physician referral, and listing decisions rest on clinical criteria alone. Once listed, you're subject to the same allocation rules as every other candidate. Programs will also look at practical factors, such as your ability to stay close to the center and cover the costs of care.
What tests are part of a heart transplant evaluation?
Evaluations typically include echocardiography, right heart catheterization to measure pressures in the heart and lungs, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, coronary angiography and extensive bloodwork, including antibody screening. Programs also assess kidney, liver and lung function, complete cancer and dental screening, and meet with you and your caregivers about support after surgery. Having your existing reports ready can shorten this process.
I was told I'm not a transplant candidate. Can another program review my case?
Yes, you can seek a second opinion, and candidacy criteria do vary between programs. Some reasons for a decline can change over time, such as weight, lung pressures or antibody levels, and some can't. A second review won't always reach a different conclusion, but it can clarify why the decision was made and whether any path forward exists.
What is an LVAD, and could it be an option before or instead of a transplant?
A left ventricular assist device is a mechanical pump that helps a weakened heart circulate blood. For some patients, it supports them while they wait for a donor heart. For others, it improves their health enough to become a candidate later, or serves as long-term therapy when transplant isn't suitable. A heart failure specialist can tell you which, if any, applies to you.
How long would I need to stay near the transplant center?
It depends on the program and your situation. Some programs ask listed candidates to stay within a set travel time of the hospital. After surgery, recipients usually need weeks to months of close monitoring nearby, including regular checks for rejection. Your case manager plans accommodation, caregiver arrangements and the transfer of follow-up care back home.
